A raid by the Central GST team in Durgapur’s Benachiti Natun Pally area on Tuesday evening triggered tension and curiosity among local residents. Officials carried out a search operation at a rented house linked to transporter Bapi Badyakar, leading to heightened security and restricted movement in the locality.
According to sources, Bapi Badyakar was not present at the premises at the time of the raid. However, several employees of different transport companies were staying in the house, and officials questioned them as part of the ongoing probe.
The operation was conducted by officers of the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI GST), accompanied by central armed forces personnel. The team began the search on Tuesday evening and continued questioning late into the night.
Local sources said the house had been rented out to a businessman, who was made to sit and face questioning during the raid. Strict security arrangements were put in place throughout the operation to prevent any disturbance.
No official statement has been issued so far regarding the reason for the raid or any recovery made during the search. Residents of the area remain watchful as authorities continue their investigation, especially amid recent enforcement actions in Asansol linked to illegal trade activities.
